Do you remember when you first realised the amazing things that Jesus said and did?
A teacher, different from any before or since, who showed His meaning by His life. When He returned to heaven He left His followers to continue His work. They have done this, with many ups and downs, for 2000 years now.
Every generation has had to compare its teaching and practice with the original teaching and practice of Jesus. Out of this comparison have come new denominations, which have been used to keep the message alive and relevant for a new generation.
These in their turn have strayed from the basics, and decayed.
Every christian can compare his life with the life of Jesus, and see areas of difference, which need to be considered.
Some are cultural, some relate to the limited nature of our abilities and calling, others show that we have missed the point of His example, and have gone our own way.
Being practical
The activities of Jesus were so practical! That's why the crowds came. People came to Him with their needs. He had the resources to meet them.
Is this the essence of the timeless message He gives to us? Share what you have with those who need it. That's practical christianity !
Well anyone can do that! You don't even have to be religious!
That's absolutely right! That's why Jesus did not get on with the religious people of His day. Religions centre on performance of ceremonies, public prayer, and worship of various kinds. That's fine, but it is difficult to see, from the gospel account, that these things were high priorities for Jesus.
As the conduct of meetings, what is said or sung, is the cause of most of the differences between christians, perhaps more practical service will bring us together!
Please consider the teachings of Jesus, or ask a question or put your point of view.
If you can join in with your ideas or a project that needs help, you will be most welcome.
